How the numbers work
- Litter: about 1.25 kg per broiler per crop.
- Heat in the litter: about 2 kWh of heat to hot water per kilogram at around 32% moisture, typical recovery for a modern litter heating system.
- Heating you use now: about 1.43 kWh of heat per broiler, the Irish average for gas-heated houses reported by Teagasc. Your own fuel records will be more accurate: tell us them and we will use them.
- Fuel replaced: about 7.0 kWh per litre of LPG and 10.3 kWh per litre of kerosene.
What the estimate leaves out
- Timing. A house needs most of its heat early in the crop; ZEDE makes heat continuously. Heat storage, or houses on staggered crops, lets the output be used when it is needed. We size this for your site.
- Biochar: a typical char yield from litter, valued at a mid-range market price.
- Carbon removal credits: a mid-range estimate of the carbon stored in that biochar, at a mid-range credit price. Credits depend on certification and are confirmed from a sample of your litter.
- Costs. The figure is gross annual income. Installation and running costs depend on your site; we cover them in a site assessment.
